When I was first diagnosed with diabetes in 2007, I went to the ER. I said that I’m not going to be one of those people who lets this control my life.

Because I am young, I wanted to make sure I had a physician who would be very aggressive with my treatment. Dr. Martin wanted to make sure we got a really good grip on my diabetes, and I could control what happens to my future. I knew that I wanted the Diabetes Education. I knew that I wanted the Fitness Center. They open at 6 am which is very convenient for my schedule. Everything is right there. I’ll go in and exercise and if I have a question for one of the Diabetes Nurses I can swing by on my way back to my car.

There’s also the Diabetes Research. With any medical condition you have to have the research. You only learn by thinking outside the box, by looking at what might be. If you don’t do the research, we’re not going to get anywhere.

I do need the Diabetes Institute. It has made my job with diabetes easier. I didn’t realize how bad I felt until I started feeling better. That was with the help of Dr. Martin, the diabetes nurses, Paul at the Fitness Center, as well as myself.
